Rebeca Torres Moretto

I am a woman dedicated to creating opportunities for other women to realize their beauty, power, and strength.  Like all doulas I am a hand to hold, a shoulder to cry on, an ear for listening to your dreams and fears, and an open heart.  I am passionate about serving women around the childbearing years.  It has been a powerful lesson to experience firsthand the difference in birth outcomes that can be made when women are provided with culturally competent education, support, and the chance to trust and value their bodies.  This passion has developed gradually with each life experience that I have had.

I was ushered into the “birth world” during the birth of my younger brother when I was thirteen years old.  Watching my mother give birth full of joy and power, on her terms, was a beautiful introduction to the chapters of my life that were yet to be written. Since that incredible moment, I have had the honor of serving women during this equally amazing and vulnerable time in their lives in a variety of settings and in diverse populations.

Who Am I?

Throughout these experiences, I began meeting midwives, lactation consultants, childbirth educators, obstetricians, and doulas.  They inspired me to become a labor support and postpartum doula.  I have felt called to this work ever since.  Being invited into the sacred moments of birth is something I consider an honor and a privilege.  I have learned so much from journeying with women and their partners and families to bring a new life into this world.   I am certified

through DONA international as a labor support, and postpartum doula.  I am also a Lamaze certified childbirth educator (LCCE), Certified Lactation Counselor (CLC) and Certified Health Education Specialist.   I am currently enrolled in nursing school at UNC Chapel Hill pursuing my dream of becoming a midwife.  I hope that I can walk with you through this most unique and transformative time in your life.

Peace and blessings,

Rebeca

My husband Justin and I

I have had the opportunity to work in Ecuador providing health education to pregnant women and new mothers.  I provided prenatal education for women in a migrant farm worker population in eastern North Carolina.  I worked as a health education specialist for a perinatal network in New York, creating health education and awareness programs around topics such as perinatal mood disorders, breast feeding, and nutrition.  I have a Master of Public Health degree in International Health, which I believe has given me a unique perspective on women’s health issues and has made me aware of the wide variety of cultural considerations surrounding pregnancy and birth.
